Indra Lahiri, Ph.D. was called “a storyteller, dreamer, and friend of the animals,” by the Anishinaabe Medicine Man who adopted her into the tribe of the White Earth Nation, naming her “Ishkudeikwe” (Woman of the Fire). She has rescued thousands of animals from dire circumstances around the world. She tells their stories in her writing and speaking and lives amongst them between her travels. In the course of her decades of learning from the animals, Indra founded Indraloka Animal Sanctuary (2005) and since 2014 has volunteered her time as a consultant, helping other sanctuaries to succeed. In addition, she has taught, mentored, coached and keynote addressed tens of thousands of people on a range of topics that are always, at their core, based on ethical leadership and compassion for all.
Her award-winning blog, which chronicles sacred moments with rescued animals, is followed by tens of thousands of readers on every continent. Indra is grateful to have the opportunity to dedicate her life to helping traumatized animals rediscover joy, love, and trust.
Jennifer Channin has served as the Executive Director of the Better Food Foundation since 2021. She previously served as Director of Development at Better Food Foundation, Farm Forward, Found in Translation, and has worked in philanthropy for nearly twenty years raising tens of millions of dollars for farmed animal protection and social justice organizations worldwide. She holds a Masters of Divinity from Harvard, is an ordained minister, and is a dual citizen of the US and Brazil. She lives in San Diego with her partner, Aaron, and their dog, Buddy.
Dr. Joanne Kong speaks around the world as an environmental, animal, and plant-based nutrition advocate. She has been praised for her TEDx talk, The Power of Plant-Based Eating, currently over 975,000 views, is editor of the new book Vegan Voices: Essays by Inspiring Changemakers, and appears in the major documentary, Eating Our Way to Extinction. An award-winning classical pianist, she holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Oregon, and draws upon a diversity of skills as a writer, speaker and creative artist in her advocacy activities. Dr. Kong is currently a faculty member and Sustainability Advisor at the University of Richmond in Virginia.
Meryl Fury, MS, RN is a specialist in the care and quality of care for underserved populations. Her professional experience covers the spectrum of vulnerable communities including the frail elderly, single mothers and their children, homeless, impoverished, and undocumented immigrant populations.
Meryl is President and CEO of Plant-Based Nutrition Movement, a Chicagoland-based 501(c)3 with the mission of educating people about WFPB nutrition to sustain the health of the planet and all its inhabitants. Meryl is also on the Board of Directors of The T. Colin Campbell, Center for Nutrition Studies. She also leads in-person and online support groups for people transitioning to a Whole Food Plant Based way of eating.
Meryl has her own business called Balance Forward Health and Wellness, LLC. As founder and CEO, she works with clients who want to transform their health. Her life’s mission is to dispel dietary myths and make healthy life habits accessible to everyone. She believes that we all have the power to increase our total health and happiness one breath, and one bite, at a time.
