Healthy homemade falafel
This recipe can be made in either an air fryer or the oven! It’s delicious, healthy, and has the perfect crunch!
- 2 cups dry chickpeas soaked overnight in 8 cups water (then drained)
- 1/2 large onion
- 5 cloves garlic
- 1/2 bunch fresh cilantro
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 tsp falafel spices (optional)
- 1 tsp coriander
- 1 tbsp cumin
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds
Mix all the ingredients (except sesame seeds) together in a food processor.
Leave mixture in the fridge for 30-60 minutes, then form into cookie-shaped flat balls.
Lightly grease the bottom of your air fryer or a parchment paper with oil to keep from sticking. Sprinkle the falafels with sesame seeds, then airfry at 400º for 20-25 minutes or put on the lined tray in the oven at 450ºF for 25 minutes. In both cases, flip the falafels halfway.
Keep your eye on them in the last 10 minutes to make sure they are crunchy, but not burnt! ENJOY!!!
